Art Journal Page: I Cut up a Book (Gasp!)

Seriously. I love it when people use book pages in their art, but I have not been able to bring myself to do it…that is until today. I did it, but I feel so naughty. I’m (ahem) not a kid, but I am still afraid my mother will see what I did to this book and then it will be all over for me. The book was already damaged beyond saving, mom. Really ๐Ÿ™‚

To make this page I played with: acrylics, spay ink, modge-podge, craft paper, needle and thread, brads, book pages, vellum, and paint chips (whew!)

The quote reads:

“Love doesn’t make the world go ’round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.”

  2. This turned out so lovely!! I had the same latent issues when I defaced my first old book…it does get easier though ๐Ÿ™‚

Today I cut up national geographic magazines which is almost as bad as cutting up a book! Good job, love the art journal page!

    1. That is so funny because I have a Nat’l Geo that I have been saving to use for something crafty…maybe that will be easier now that I have attacked a book ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thanks for stopping by and for commenting!

  5. Very nice page! I never had a prob cutting up old books, but I go the thrift store and buy the cheap ones specifically for that purpose, so maybe thats why its easier for me. Although I definitely need to be more careful which books I buy to cut up and use in my creative endeavors. One that I purchase was in Japanese, which I though was awesome, until a friend of mine who is Japanese told me it is a book about adultery and murder. Whoops! Wasn’t what I was going for, lol. Now I’m afraid if I use it, I don’t want to use it on a romantic page for instance, and have someone see that the book page behind it is the scene where the wife kills her husband or something, I think that would send the wrong message!

    1. That is hilarious, and a very good point!

  6. Hello, Great page, but I know exactly how you felt, the first time I ripped up a book I thought I was going to be struck by lightening! It does get easier I promise. I have a friend who said “I bought all these lovely old books to use in my craft but now I can’t bring myself to rip them up” My advice was to buy books she didn’t like – it works for me. You did a great job.
    Big love

  7. I seriously could just “like” every single page you’ve done. So just take this “like” and multiply it by your # of pages. =)

    1. You are so kind! Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚ I look forward to keeping track of your projects too!
