Just yesterday I stumbled upon a Web site for an idea that I find really fascinating. Its called “Dear World” and there is a short video explaining what they do here. I won’t go into too many details, you can check it out if you would like, but the gist of it is that they have people write short (a few words) messages to friends, family, the world, on their body, usually on an arm or a hand, and then they photograph it and post it to their site. There was one image that stayed with me that said “Fear Less.” It got me thinking about fear, about the act of being “fearless” vs. the directive to “fear less.”
Maybe I don’t have to be unfailingly fearless, maybe I just need to fear less. Still pondering that one…
To make this I played with painters tape, acrylics, spray ink, sharpie, various papers, brads, water colors, and (with slightly less guilt) book pages.
And, since this song has been stuck in my head ALL week, and this is a band that I heart more and more every time I listen, I present to you, Freelance Whales:
I encourage you to check them out and buy this album. It’s worth a listen!
